Efficiency: a critical success factor for solar storage systems

Date: March 16, 2014
Publication: Intelligent Utility

Energy storage is in the spotlight today at the residential and commercial level not only for grid support in utility-scale applications, but because storage efficiency is a key component in making solar energy viable for end-users. Efficient storage increases system profitability as well as end-user self-consumption by enabling use of solar energy loads at night. At the same time feed-in tariffs for solar energy are decreasing, and electricity tariffs are increasing. Self-consumption of the energy produced by the PV plant is increasingly becoming the business model to make the investment on solar viable in different regions, especially throughout Europe.
