Multiple IEEE Smart Grid Experts Highlighted In GreenTechGrid’s “Networked Grid 100: The Movers and Shakers of the Smart Grid in 2012”
PISCATAWAY, N.J., USA, 27 March 2012 – IEEE, the world's largest professional association advancing technology for humanity, announced today that more than 10 per cent of the influencers named in GreenTechGrid’s “Networked Grid 100: The Movers and Shakers of the Smart Grid in 2012” list are Smart Grid experts actively involved in IEEE Smart Grid-related activities and initiatives.

Massoud Amin is a senior member of IEEE, chair of the IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter, and a Fellow of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). He holds the Honeywell/H.W. Sweatt Chair in Technological Leadership at the University of Minnesota, directs the University’s Technological Leadership Institute (TLI), and is a University Distinguished Teaching Professor and professor of electrical and computer engineering.
George W. Arnold is an IEEE Fellow, past president of the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA), and is national coordinator for smart grid interoperability at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Erich Gunther is an IEEE Fellow, a member of the IEEE Smart Grid Task Force, chairman of the IEEE Power & Energy Society's (PES) Intelligent Grid Coordinating Committee, an IEEE PES Governing Board member, and administrator for the NIST Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP). He is also co-founder, chairman, and chief technology officer of EnerNex.
Doug Houseman is a member of multiple IEEE societies, is active on IEEE Grid Vision 2050, the principal author of several Grid Modernization Tutorials developed for the IEEE, and secretary of the IEEE PES Intelligent Grid Coordinating Committee. He is also vice president of technical innovation at EnerNex.
John McDonald, P.E. is an IEEE Fellow, a past member of the IEEE-SA Board of Governors, IEEE PES past-president, IEEE Division VII past-director (Energy and Power Engineering), IEEE Medal of Honor committee member, and governing board chair of the NIST SGIP. He is also director, technical strategy and policy development at GE Energy’s Digital Energy business.
Mark McGranaghan is involved in the IEEE PES Power Quality Subcommittee, Harmonics, Distribution, Intelligent Grid, and Distribution Automation. He also is vice president of Power Delivery & Utilization (PDU) for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
Jeffrey Katz is working group co-chair for the IEEE 2030TM Guide for Smart Grid Interoperability of Energy Technology and Information Technology, and a member of IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, IEEE PES, and IEEE-SA. He is also the chief technology officer of the Energy and Utilities industry at IBM.
Saifur Rahman is an IEEE Fellow and vice president of IEEE PES, the director of the Virginia Tech Advanced Research Institute, and the Joseph R. Loring Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Wanda Reder is chair, IEEE Smart Grid and past-president of IEEE PES. She is also vice president of the power systems services division at S&C Electric Company.
Pat Ryan is executive director for the IEEE PES, which is approaching 30,000 members and has more than 300 chapters.
Cheri Warren is division VII director-elect for the IEEE Board of Directors, Power & Energy, and is vice president of asset management for National Grid.
Steve Widergren is editor of IEEE's Transactions on Power Systems and plenary chair of the NIST SGIP. He is also principal engineer for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
