Grid Architecture: Discipline, Methods, and Recent Developments

Presented by: Dr. Jeffrey D. Taft - Chief Architect for Electric Grid Transformation, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

Thursday, June 23, 2016 | 1:00pm – 2:00pm ET

This webinar will describe the discipline of Grid Architecture as it has been defined in the work done for the US Department of Energy over the last two years. The presentation will cover basic definitions and terms and the purpose, scope, and value of Grid Architecture, followed by a discussion of the shift in paradigms necessary to deal with the complexity of grid modernization. An overview of core principles and methods will provide an understanding of how grid architecture work is actually performed and what kinds of work products are created in the process.

The presentation will then illustrate the use of this discipline for practical grid modernization problems, and show some recent results and architectural insights developed during the recent work done for DOE and the utility industry.

Finally, we will conclude with brief remarks on the future work to be done and then accept questions from the audience.
